The "good news" is that do happen to have an obsolete MacBook Air (very old MBA) which cannot upgrade past High Sierra, so I had to use that obsolete MBA from my closet to upgrade the firmware! Why Casio only supports High Sierra and not Mojave or Catalina is a total mystery to me! I guess Casio simply does not care about firmware upgrade software for macOS.

All my main macs run Catalina (I own four Macs, including a 12 core Mac Pro from 2013, a Mac Mini and two MacBook Airs), so you cannot upgrade the PRIZM FX-CG50 software on three of those those four machines. The macOS firmware upgrade software for the PRIZM FX-CG50 only works on High Sierra, which is two major releases back. Thank goodness for YouTube tutorials (but others, not Casio) but you would think that Casio could create their own very good tutorials but no they cannot.

The documentation provided and the PDF online is very poor. I also do not like how the FX-CG50 handles errors. The keyboard is hard to read, the contrast between the functions and the black background is poor, perhaps by design so this device it is not for me. I think the design is way too thick, perhaps because of the decision by Casio to run device this on four AAA batteries?Īnyway, I don't like the design in the least (for the money paid). In fact, it feels rough and unrefined, bulky and cheap. The Casio PRIZM FX-CG50 does not have a nice feel in my hands at all. As an electrical engineer who works in software engineering, I have used a lot of calculators.
